10 Using The Marauder's Map To Sneak Into Hogsmeade
In their third year, Hogwarts students were allowed to visit the Wizarding village of Hogsmeade on the weekends if they had been granted permission by their legal guardians. Unfortunately for Harry, the Dursleys refused to sign his permission slip, leaving him stuck in the castle while his friends had fun a few miles away.

Just before the Christmas holidays, Harry breaks Hogwarts' rules when Fred and George give him the Marauder's Map, a detailed map of Hogwarts that shows several passages leading into Hogsmeade. Harry uses it several times to sneak into the village until the end of Prisoner of Azkaban when Sirius officially permits him.
9 Creating Dumbledore's Army Despite Umbridge Banning All Clubs
Order of the Phoenix introduced one of the most hated characters in the series, Dolores Umbridge, a Ministry official acting as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for the year. Not only did she forbid her students from using magic during her lessons, but she also started a school-wide reform that made everyone angry.
Concerned over Voldemort's return, Hermione suggested that Harry teach other students defensive magic, as he was the most qualified to do so after his encounters with the Dark Lord. Soon after, the Golden Trio and the newly-formed Dumbledore's Army were learning to fight the Dark Arts right under Umbridge's nose.

7 Attacking Snape, A Professor, In The Shrieking Shack
While most Hogwarts professors were described as pleasant and accommodating, there was one teacher who always seemed to get on the Golden Trio's nerves. Snape might have been a powerful, knowledgeable wizard, but the way he treated his students left a lot to be desired.
The fact that everyone, except the Slytherins, disliked him made it a lot easier for Harry, Ron, and Hermione to attack him during an encounter in the Shrieking Shack. Their three-way Disarming spells were so strong that Snape was completely knocked out for hours. Nevertheless, it was a serious rule break to attack a professor.

The Golden Trio often used Harry's Invisibility Cloak to roam around Hogwarts at night, especially when they were sleuthing around the castle or breaking into the library's restricted section. Its most frequent use, however, was keeping them out of sight as they left for Hagrid's hut well after curfew.

Despite warning them multiple times not to do it again, Hagrid always welcomed the Golden Trio in. Hagrid also fed them some of his homemade pastries, which, according to Harry, were rock-hard and impossible to bite into.
5 Stealing Thestrals To Fly To The Ministry Of Magic
Hogwarts employed a large herd of Thestrals to pull the carriages that transported students from Hogsmeade station to the school and vice-versa. The skeletal, winged horses could only be seen by those who had witnessed death firsthand, so they remained invisible to most of the student body.

When Sirius was supposedly abducted by Voldemort, Luna suggested going to his rescue on Thestrals, as they had an excellent sense of direction. The Golden Trio, Neville, Ginny, and Luna then attracted six of the creatures and flew on their backs to the Ministry of Magic in London. Stealing Thestrals was definitely a rule break.
4 Adventuring Into The Forbidden Forest And Finding Aragog
Harry, Ron, and Hermione spent most of their second school year unraveling the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets and the monster living within it. All signs seemed to point to Hagrid, who had been accused of opening the Chamber fifty years prior, but the Golden Trio refuse to believe their friend could be guilty of such atrocities.

After Hermione was petrified by Slytherin's unknown beats, Harry and Ron set into the Forbidden Forest in search of answers. During their short adventure, they met Aragog the Acromantula and almost died when it ordered the other spiders to attack them.
3 Smuggling A Dragon Out Of The Castle
Hagrid's love for rare and dangerous magical creatures often got him into more trouble than it was worth. In Philosopher's Stone, he raised a baby dragon called Norbert, which was an illicit practice in Wizarding Britain. However, Norbert got too big to live in Hagrid's hut. The creature also bit Ron hard enough that he had to take a trip to the hospital wing.

It took some convincing, but Hagrid eventually agreed to relinquish Norbert to Ron's older brother, Charlie, who's a professional dragon handler. Harry and Hermione then took Norbert to the tallest tower in the castle and handed him off to four of Charlie's friends, who had arrived via broomstick.

2 Stealing From Snape's Private Stores To Make The Polyjuice Potion
Making the Polyjuice Potion in Chamber of Secrets included a lot of thieving and wrongdoing from the Golden Trio. They tricked Lockhart into signing a special permission slip to visit the restricted section, made Moaning Myrtle's bathroom into their secret headquarters, and even stole from their teacher's private stores of potion ingredients.
During a Potions class, Harry caused a commotion to distract Snape so that Hermione could quietly slip into his office and obtain what they needed. However, they didn't stop there. Once the potion was ready, Harry and Ron then drugged two of their classmates to steal their DNA and transform into them.

1 Sneaking Into The Third-Floor Corridor Even Though It Was Forbidden By Dumbledore
During his start-of-term speech in Philosopher's Stone, Dumbledore explicitly forbid all students from approaching the third-floor corridor lest they die a very painful death. The Golden Trio and Neville eventually stumbled into this side of the castle while escaping from Filch and saw Fluffy, an enormous three-headed dog guarding something under a trap door.
After figuring out that Fluffy was protecting the Philosopher's Stone, Harry, Ron, and Hermione once again defied Dumbledore's orders. They went down the trap door in search of whoever was planning on stealing it.
